Meet Coach Steve Williams

Founder & Head Coach — USPTA P1 Elite Professional

With over 15 years of coaching in Northern Colorado, Steve Williams has built one of the region's most respected tennis programs from the ground up. A University of Kansas graduate and top-10 Colorado singles player at the championship level, Steve brings both competitive experience and genuine love for the game to every lesson.

Steve has coached hundreds of kids who have played #1 for their high schools, with many achieving success at the college level including Division 1 programs. He finished 2013 ranked #2 in open doubles in Colorado and 2016 ranked #1 in Men's 35 doubles.

From 2008-2009 he coached the men's team at the University of Northern Colorado — the only public Division 1 Men's Tennis program in the state. He served as Head Coach for the boys tennis team at Loveland High School from 2011 through 2014, and has been Director of adidas Tennis Camps at Colorado State University since 2012.

In Spring 2022, Williams Tennis School was hired as the Pro (concessionaire) for the City of Loveland, CO, cementing its role as the go-to tennis program for the community.

Community Voices

Stories from players and families who have been part of the Williams Tennis School community.

Since I was about 13 I have been working with Steve, and he has been a part of my tennis success ever since. Whether it is technique, mental toughness, strategy, or physical fitness, he can help. It's rare to find a coach who really cares for his students and loves what he does as much as Steve. He has played an important role in the development of my game and my signing to play Division 1 tennis at Butler University in the Big East Conference.

Spencer Lang

Colorado State Champ, #1 Singles, 2014

What really makes Steve different about other coaches is his passion for the game. It's very rare to find a coach who loves to work hard with you and pushes you on and off the court. He is a major reason I am where I am today, playing Division 1 Tennis for Creighton University in the Big East conference.

Harrison Lang

D1 Tennis, Creighton University

Steve puts on an outstanding Junior focused program that finds and develops some of the best High School players in Colorado. My daughters participated for 2 years and we saw a noticeable growth in their tennis. Steve's teaching approach, his passion for developing Juniors, and his program is very, very good.

Gordon Motley

Fossil Ridge High School Coach and Parent

I started playing with Steve in 8th grade having never received professional tennis instruction in my life. Steve's passion for the sport was instantly contagious. I solely credit Steve for instilling in me a love for the game that ultimately persuaded me to quit soccer and join the Niwot High School varsity team instead. I earned a spot on varsity as a freshman.

Christopher Gang

Niwot High School Varsity

Steve's teaching skills go above and beyond what you could ask for. He made tennis fun by allowing me to enjoy my strengths while playing, but also pushed me to face my challenges. What will always be my favorite thing about Coach Steve is the fact that he's a role model outside of tennis as well.

Maria Tunno

WTS Student

Steve helped me grow throughout the years. He pushed me to my limits and helped me reach my goals. What is great about Steve is that he not only helps my game physically but also mentally. If you are serious about tennis than go train at Williams Tennis School.

Allen Fu

#2 singles, Niwot High School, Fall 2014

I enjoy the way Steve runs his classes because he understands that live ball hitting is the best way to get better, so there is not much standing around and he always makes them fun classes. Steve is definitely the reason I made it to state my senior year of high school.

Garet Davis

#1 singles, Loveland High, Fall 2014

My son, Matthew, has been taking lessons from Steve Williams since he was 7 years old. As a parent watching the lessons, I see Steve conduct the classes in a friendly, clear, and enjoyable style! I know parents that are traveling to take lessons from Steve. Longmont is fortunate to have Steve here!

Steve Williams and the Williams Tennis School have been an integral part of my tennis training for the past six years. The skills I have learned have made me successful in high school varsity and tournament play, and have helped me secure a position on my college tennis team.

College Tennis Player

I'm lucky to have worked with Steve Williams through my high school years and without his coaching I wouldn't be where I am playing college tennis in Pennsylvania. He helped me understand the sport of tennis and my specific style. I just got named NCAC female tennis player of the week and you definitely had a big part of that.

College Tennis, Pennsylvania

Steve, I seriously want to thank you for letting me play on the FRA team for the spring and summer. I got so much better and have never had as much fun playing a sport before in my life.

Adam Brubaker

#2 singles for Thompson Valley HS

Thank you so much for giving me the privilege of playing with your team. I'm training in Florida now but will continue with the FRA when I'm home. You are one of the most talented coaches that I have ever worked with.

Sarah Hamner

#1 ranking Intermountain, Level 3 summer sectional champion

I just wanted to thank you for a great adidas camp last week. Nathan had a fun time, and he said he'd like to go again next year. The day after the camp ended, Nathan played in his first Level-6 10 & under tournament and took first place. It was his first tournament win.

I have been working with Steve for over a year now. I started playing tennis again after about a 25 year break and he has been so encouraging! He has helped me with my serve, strokes, strategy, among other things. Mostly, I appreciate his positive attitude and his energy!

Susan Kingsley

Adult Student

When I first joined Steve's class, he asked each of us what our tennis goals were. I said I wanted to improve my game and have fun. Steve is so energetic and upbeat that he brings out more energy and positive attitude in me than I knew I had. After a few months, I've discovered that while I'm having all that fun, I'm also becoming a better player.
